Senior Counsel

The Senior Counsel will liaise as needed with other support and business functions to resolve issues.

The Senior Counsel’s primary business location will be in the corporate headquarters in Somerset.

Position Summary

The Senior Counsel reports to the Associate General Counsel

The Senior Counsel will be a key member of the Legal Department, reporting and providing direct support to one of the Company’s Associate General Counsels, as well as providing support as needed to other attorneys on a wide variety of matters for each of the Company’s business units’ needs, including commercial contracts, dispute resolution, acquisitions, and real estate.

In concert with Catalent’s Patient First philosophy, this position is key in our

efforts toward continuous improvement of our processes & information which will

allow quality drug products to reach patients safely and efficiently.

The Role

  • Draft, review, analyze, structure and negotiate manufacturing, packaging, pharmaceutical development, purchase, supply, license and master service agreements

  • Advise business unit personnel with respect to compliance policies, customer and vendor relations, contract matters, regulatory issues

  • Assist in merger and acquisition activity; Assist in corporate governance activity

  • Provide general advice to management on a day-to-day basis; Provide advice and guidance for the accomplishment of the overall business objectives of the Company in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and avoidance of unacceptable risks; Provide informed cost benefit analysis when identifying risks

  • Develop a thorough understanding of and familiarity with the Company’s business, its people, products, technology, markets, facilities, customers and competitors in order to identify trends and formulate structures and strategies accordingly

  • Ensure that all Company activities are conducted in compliance with internal policies and procedures

  • Make presentations to and train Company personnel on legal issues as needed; Supervise paralegals on certain tasks

The Candidate (requirements)

  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree ​

  • 3-5 years of experience with a well-established law firm and/or corporate legal department, with a focus on pharmaceutical or other regulated industry legal matters.

  • A record of outstanding academic achievement at the undergraduate and graduate levels

  • Admitted to practice in New Jersey (NJ in-house admission is acceptable)

  • A business person’s lawyer with excellent judgment, particularly in determining the significance of legal matters and effectively measuring and minimizing risks

  • Strong organizational skills in order to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously; willingness to assume heavy workload to meet timing and project needs

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to synthesize complex legal issues to essential elements for clients throughout the organization with different abilities and responsibilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and flexibility, and the ability to interface effectively with personnel at many different levels throughout the Company

  • Ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities; Must demonstrate maturity and initiative; Team oriented and hands on work orientation

  • Willingness to travel and to spend time at various Company locations to understand potential opportunities and provide guidance and training

  • Enthusiasm and “self-starter” qualities enabling the lawyer to manage responsibilities with an appropriate sense of urgency; the ability to function effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
