Global Laboratory Automation Business Lead

The Global Laboratory Automation Business Lead is responsible for leading the development of global design and multi-site deployment for the laboratory automation program with harmonized processes that support Research & Development (R&D) and Quality Control laboratories, analytical capabilities, as well as the implementation and post-implementation support of the informatic systems. This includes systems such as Laboratory Information Management, Chromatography, Scientific Data Management, Electronic Laboratory Notebooks and all other laboratory/scientific based applications.

Position Summary

The Global Laboratory Automation Business Lead reports to the Head of MES and Laboratory Automation

The position works closely with the business and IT leadership teams serving as an expert resource, bringing forth opportunities to leverage laboratory and analytical systems to help support the growth of the business, improving operating efficiencies and influencing

decisions regarding business process changes.

The Location:

This position is based in Morrisville, NC (alternate Kansas City, MO)

The Role (daily responsibilities)

  • Develop a global design and multi-site deployment approach for the Lab Automation Program in the areas of Chromatography, Laboratory Information Management and Laboratory Management.

  • Identify vendors, products, and other elements that contribute to a highly effective solution. Responsible for vendor management activities for related software providers, implementation partners, and other required service providers

  • Support, advise, assist, guide, and resolve problems for business partners and program rollout team members; Mentor, develop and lead a high-caliber team. Build effective relationships throughout the organization.

  • Integrate solutions in an enterprise data architecture including security, resiliency and data integrity Ensure conformance to system architecture, standards, and practices

  • Provides strategic leadership for systems design, development and maintenance across multiple business areas and geographies Develops and executes plans to educate and train the user community on Laboratory Automation related topics and applications.

  • Provides leadership for the program interests to teams within System Maintenance, Data Management, Governance, Quality Assurance, and leverages resources from cross functional teams. Ensures that deployed systems comply with all applicable GxP, legal, and fiduciary policies, practices and requirements.

  • Managing the full life cycle of the software/service delivery process including process requirements, project scheduling, resource allocation, development, testing and quality control. Designing frameworks for measuring performance and ROI from newly adopted technical standards

  • Work with PMO and business to set annual priorities and ensure alignment within IT, business functions and lines of business. Responsible for all Laboratory Automation program delivery communications, organizational change management activities and the quality of all project deliverables. Tracks and reports on project related activities to the project sponsor, operating committee, steering committee and other program stakeholders.

  • Serve as member of program operating committee. Keep abreast of relevant emerging technology trends and ensure these trends are incorporated into significant, strategic and technology decisions

The Candidate

  • Bachelor’s (Master’s Degree preferably) in Computer Science, Business Administration, or other related field.

  • 10+ years’ experience in managing Laboratory Automation projects and teams in a global environment. 5+ years of leadership responsibility managing cross functional teams and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders.

  • 5+ years’ experience in implementing (LabVantage) LIMS and (Empower, OpenLAB, Chromeleon) Chromatography, Scientific Data Management and Electronic Laboratory Notebook solutions in a global environment.

  • Pharmaceutical and/or life sciences experience including Computer System Validation, 21 CFR Part 11 and general GxP experience preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Travel of approximately 10-20%.
